Open Magnet Charter is an LAUSD Affiliated-Charter and Magnet school. Like all Magnet schools in Los Angeles, admission is conducted through a priority point system based upon the Court-ordered reduction of the harms of racial isolation. Once verified, LAUSD automatically assigns priority points to each applicant through a computer process. Openings at each magnet school are determined by the need to maintain a racially balanced program and available space.
LAUSD assigns students priority points (e.g., matriculation, number of years on waiting list, sibling is at that school, and resident school is predominantly made up of minorities or is overcrowded).
Parents and guardians must apply for their child through the Choices application. Applications and further information are available online at http://echoices.lausd.net, at LAUSD schools and at public libraries.
The Choices application must be submitted the prior year in the Fall for enrollment.
Applicants will receive a confirmation/correction letter. In Spring, a second letter will be sent to inform parents/guardians if the student has been accepted or placed on a waiting list.
Students living more than two miles from the school are eligible for bus transportation. Before applying, determine if the existing school bus stop closest to your home is a reasonable distance. Contact the transportation office at (800) LA-BUSES or the Choices site for more information.
Applicants MUST be residents of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) at the time of application in order to participate in the LAUSD Magnet Program.
School Tours--Magnet School Tours for prospective parents are held around the application period. Please attend one of the tour dates as there are no individual tours are available. Check back in the Fall for tour dates (to be posted on the school home page).
