So Many Wonderful Ways to Celebrate Open's Culture Week

We want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the parents, guardians, grandparents, extended family, students, teachers, staff, and aides who pivoted and made our lovely tradition of celebrating multiculturalism possible virtually this Open Culture Week.

We kicked off the week with an exciting Monday assembly with special guest Nate Moore, the executive producer of Black Panther interviewed by Open School's Matthew Hoffman and student council. Mr. Moore's enthusiasm for film and passion came through the webinar for all of us to be a part of. We are so grateful to Kelli Paschall (parent) for making this experience possible.

Then Thursday morning, we had a cultural assembly featuring a performance by Get Empowered. The performance uplifted, empowered and encouraged us all to be our BEST selves. Thank you, Mrs. Messaye for organizing this wonderful assembly.

Throughout the week there were incredible activities led by families, sharing the traditions of their cultures and families our students. Our students learned about multiculturalism in classical music, Chinese New Year and writing, Tinikling (Filipino dance), Mardi Gras, African American inventors, Chilean culture, Pasta making from Italy, and much, much more!  What an incredible showing of diversity and talent.

A new addition to the week, was thought provoking anti-racism lessons created by a group of our Open School teachers and implemented by all. The one part that we hated to have to do without was our special school wide feast. Nonetheless, the week was truly spectacular and a testament to our wonderfully diverse community.

We truly could feel the love from our Open Family.  Thank you all for sharing and teaching us so much!

Don't forget to check out LAUSD's Local Districts' East Meets West Black History Celebration, which includes our very own Silver Cluster's student work.

The first slide of the Fairfax High Schooler singing is so amazing!  You will have to click through a few messages and then you will eventually get to the gallery page.
When you get to the actual gallery, look towards the back and you will see a sign that says “Performing Arts Gallery” in green. Click on that and you will see “Elementary” written in red.  Click on Elementary and you will see a few school logos.  Click on the “next gallery” button and you will see Open School.
