Theme: What Does it Mean to Be Human?

How is our humanity expressed through our minds, behaviors, and emotions?

In Purple Cluster, students are engaged in inquiry throughout the year.  The curriculum is learned through units that involve firsthand experiences with the content as well as supportive texts.  There is an emphasis on science and writing.

The students function as detectives and investigators as they work in groups to solve both student-generated and teacher-directed tasks.  The culminating project is a science symposium in which they present their research projects and their original writing.

Processes and activities used throughout the year include literature circles, writer's workshop, inquiry science, overnight camping, interactive journals, science notebooks, genre studies, podcasts, math projects, and working with models and simulations.  Children are expected to work both collaboratively and independently.

This Week in Purple 10.11.21 (Article)

Submitted by Purple Teacher on Oct 11 (last updated Oct 11)

Greetings Purple Families! This is Purple’s new Teacher Aide, Ms. Chey. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and give you a quick update on Purple happenings this week in addition to a couple of reminders. My kids (now in 8th and 11th grade) were both students in Purple, and I am a former 2-time Purple Room Parent. It is nice to be back at Open and in Purple, and I look forward to getting to know you and your students!

Homework packets are coming home today (Monday, October 11) and are due back this Friday, October 15.
